Anise Cookies

  • ½ c. butter
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. syrup
  • 1 c. cream
  • 1 tsp. ground star anise
  • 4 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 eggs

Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and beat well. Mix in the syrup and cream. Sift dry ingredients and add to mixture. The dough will be quite soft, pat down in flour to ¼ – ½ inch thick and cut with cutter, or you can roll into balls (with floured hands) and flatten slightly. Try not to use too much flour as it makes the cookies dry. Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes. Ice when cool (plain butter icing). Makes approx 3 dozen cookies.
