Date Torte

Marie Funk (nee Neufeld)

Combine 1 lb. dates (cooked) with ½ lb. walnuts. Beat well and add 4 egg yolks. Sift, then measure 1 cup flour. Resift with:

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt

Add sifted mixture to date and nuts. Add 1 tsp. vanilla. Beat stiff 4 egg whites. Fold lightly into first mixture. Turn into well-greased shallow pan. Bake in slow oven at 325 for 50-60 mins. When cold cut into fingers and roll in powdered sugar.
